NEET-SS 2026: how feeder-specialty eligibility affects branch choice
The postgraduate degree you choose determines which NEET-SS courses you may later be eligible for. But an eligibility count is not the same thing as a set of courses reserved for that specialty.
What the eligibility table actually tells you
The 2026 NEET-SS Information Bulletin maps eligible feeder qualifications to super-specialty courses in Annexure A. A course can accept more than one feeder specialty, so the same course may correctly appear under several postgraduate degrees.
That is why MedCareer Atlas labels the comparison row “NEET-SS courses this degree qualifies you for”. The number describes eligibility from that degree; it does not imply that those courses are exclusive to it.
Why this matters when comparing branches
A larger count can show that a degree keeps more NEET-SS options open, but the count should not be read as a ranking of the branches. Shared courses, the type of super-specialty, training availability and the career you actually want all matter more than the raw number alone.
On each MedCareer Atlas comparison page, the course names are shown alongside the count so you can inspect the actual pathways rather than comparing a single number in isolation.
Medical Genetics is shown separately
The bulletin provides broad-specialty eligibility for Medical Genetics. MedCareer Atlas therefore displays Medical Genetics separately from the branch-level NEET-SS course list, so a broadly available route is not mistaken for a pathway unique to one feeder degree.
INI-SS is a different pathway
NEET-SS does not cover every super-specialty training route in India. Institutes of National Importance use the separate INI-SS process for applicable courses. The NEET-SS eligibility figures on MedCareer Atlas therefore should not be read as a complete count of every possible post-residency super-specialty option.
